For many Malaysian students, the end of one’s Malaysian Education Certificate (SPM) examinations is often considered to be a significant milestone that is commemorated with much fanfare, denoting the very moment that one enters young adulthood. But asides from that, it is also a moment that is typically marked by expressions of gratitude and appreciation by students to their teachers for their years of tutelage and support throughout their academic journeys.

Malaysian SPM students visit late-teachers grave after completing exams to show their gratitude

Just recently, a group of Malaysian students who have completed their final SPM examination paper decided to take to TikTok to share how they marked the momentous achievement. Instead of going out in a group together to travel, or even share a celebratory meal together, the group decided that they would take their motorbikes out together to share the moment with one of their beloved teachers in a truly surprising and heartfelt way.

Travelling in a group on their motorbikes together, netizen @azeemiskndr took to documenting their journey and said that they were en-route to their teacher’s ‘new home’.

As it turns out, the students had been en-route to a cemetery where their teacher had been laid to rest. The video then cuts to the group standing around her grave and offering their prayers to her as a show of thanks for her dedication and advice leading up to their SPM.

“May you rest in peace in the hereafter, Cikgu Normala.” the student wrote.

In a follow-up video, @azeemiskndr also shared how well-loved Cikgu Normala had been among her students, many of whom were both shocked and saddened by her sudden passing when it was announced through their class’ group chat by another fellow faculty member.
