The Olympics is the largest and highly anticipated sporting event in the world. It features over 200 countries competing in various sports activities and is considered as one of the most prestigious sporting events. With that said, athletes from around the globe will be training meticulously to ensure that they’re ready.
18yo diver Bertrand Rhodict becomes first M’sian athlete to qualify for Olympics
And this applies to athletes representing Malaysia and just recently, local newspaper Malay Mail has revealed that Bertrand Rhodict, is the first Malaysian athlete to qualify for the Olympics. This comes after finishing 10th in the 10m platform at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships.
The 18-year-old diver completed the semi-finals with 420.70 points placing at 10th out of 18 participants. With that, he was able to seal the deal, booking a spot for Malaysia in the Olympics. The humble diver then attributed his success to his coaches, familyand friends, who have been by his side since the start of his career.
“I am grateful for the support”, he said.
Bertrand also vowed that he will continue to work hard along with the support of the National Sports Council and other relevant parties, before he heads for Paris in 2024. Following his achievements, NST reports that Malaysian Swimming Federation secretary general Andy Low voiced out his satisfaction on the qualification for Paris Olympics 2024.
“This is progress because no male divers were qualified for the Tokyo Olympics previously”, he mentioned.
He then emphasised that it’s great to have at least one male diver that qualifies for the Olympics through the world championships.
