Given the fact that hospitals are meant to be places of healing for those who are infirmed and in need of care, many of us come to expect that they have to meet the most stringent of hygiene standards. After all, the threat of germs could potentially worsen a patient’s condition further, rendering them susceptible to further illness. However, that didn’t seem to be the case when a woman was recently admitted to a government hospital.
Woman finds rat scurrying about children’s ward in government hospital
TikTok user @dayanaradzuan, otherwise known as Dayana, had recently found herself testing positive for COVID-19, which inevitably meant that she and other members of her family who were also positive wound up being warded at a local hospital. And while that alone may not raise many eyebrows, what happened as she was accompanying her child at the pediatric ward certainly did.
Tucked underneath the beds appears to be the fuzzy shape of an errant rat, sniffing and scurrying its way across the ward’s floor.
And despite the alarming sight of a rat being in a hospital space and the likelihood of it transmitting diseases to patients, Dayana claimed in her caption to the clip that hospital nurses didn’t seem to care even after she had alerted to them of the fact that a rat was seen wandering the hospital wards.
“Steady, a government ward for kids that is now being shared with rats,” she adds in her video.
Netizen admonish the state of public healthcare facilities, state health exco now investigating the matter
Understandably, the sight of rats in a hospital has led to many netizens admonishing the state of public healthcare facilities.
“The way the rat doesn’t seem to even care that there are people around. It’s almost like this is it’s home.”
“2 in 1 hospital. It can treat both humans and rats at the same time.”
“That rat could turn out to be a doctor. We never know. Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
In fact, the clip has since gone so viral, it had even caught the attention of Negri Sembilan State Health Exco S. Veerapan. According to The Star, the video is now being probed to determine the exact location of the hospital seen in the video.
“This is a serious matter and I have already asked the state health director for a report.
“They are probing the incident,” he said.
He has also stressed the importance of resolving this matter urgently, as the sighting of pests in hospital wards could give rise to other problems ahead.
