Over the years, public transport in Malaysia has gone through significant improvements. With that said, many Malaysians would rely on public transports to commute around town. Just recently it has been announced that Malaysia’s first trackless tram will be made available soon!
FREE trackless tram rides in Putrajaya available from February 1 to 4!
According to local newspaper MalayMail, it was reported that the trackless tram otherwise known as Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) will be undergoing its pilot testing all the way until December 2024. However, the public will be given the chance to ride on the trackless tram for free from February 1 to 4, in conjunction with Federal Territory Day and Putrajaya Open Day.

That being said, the free rides that were announced on the official Instagram page will officially kickstart the project in the city. While the announcement was made by Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPJ) through its Facebook and Instagram pages, it’s worth noting that technical specifications as well as map routes have yet to be disclosed.
While the public will be able to experience riding the Autonomous Rapid Transit during the upcoming week, it’s been said that this is not the first time an ART tram has been deployed in Malaysia. Prior to this, Sarawak Metro has announced its completion of the proof-of-concept trials in Kuching by using a prototype ART vehicle. The actual operations of the hydrogen-powered tram is scheduled to commence by Q4 of 2025!
