OKU Smile: Differently abled M’sians can enjoy free public transport rides from Feb 1 onwards!

As an effort to encourage and empower the differently abled Malaysians, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has announced a subscription pass, ‘OKU Smile’. This subscription pass is aimed to increase mobility in the differently abled community.

According to a statement released by Prasarana, differently abled Malaysians can now apply or activate their ‘OKU Smile’ pass starting from today (15/1/2024) and the initiative for free public transport rides is scheduled to commence on 1 February. In terms of eligibility, it was mentioned that the pass is available to all who possess the OKU concession cardholders.

As for those who like to apply for the free subscription pass, they can do so by heading to any RapidKL LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT as well as selected bus hubs. Other than that, those who have expired cards can also head over to the counters and apply for a new card. However, it’s worth noting that identification and OKU card issued by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) is required for verification.

The whole application process at the counter would take roughly 10 to 15 minutes and a RM5 is charged for card production. Similarly, users can also opt to apply for their pass online. For online applications, users are required to head over to their website and upload copies of their identification card, JKM OKU card, and a passport-sized photograph.

Upon submission, applicants can choose their desired location for collection and an assurance is made to users that the card will be available within 3 working days after submission.

The ‘OKU Smile’ pass is truly a great initiative as it represents the government’s commitment towards being inclusive as well as improving the quality of lifestyle of the nation.
