The heart grows fonder with distance, as the old saying goes. Many families who have been living apart, divided by the Causeway will surely be able to testify to the truth in that adage, given the closure of international borders between both Malaysia and Singapore during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the establishing of the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL), residents from both sides of the shore are now finally afforded with the opportunity to reunite with their families once again.

Among them include Ms Evonne Yan, who just recently took to sharing her own homecoming, after having spent the better part of two years in Singapore as a result of the border restrictions. Upon the announcement of the Land VTL that now allowed Malaysians with Singapore work passes to travel back home by designated busses, she decided that she would hatch a plan together with her fiancé to surprise her parents in a truly unexpected and unorthodox way.
By purchasing a cardboard box that was large enough to have her safely ensconced within, Evonne then enlisted the help of her partner and her boss to help complete the charade and have her sent to her family’s shop while she remained disguised as a parcel!
The surprise left both her parents stunned but delighted to see their daughter again
Completely committed to the charade, Evonne’s fiancé was even dressed in uniform and kept his face concealed behind a mask and a cap before pushing a hand cart that contained the precious cargo on board to her mother.
“Wow, what a big box! What are you sending?” her unsuspecting mother asked, puzzled by the sight.
But it wouldn’t be too long before Evonne springs out from within the box, much to her mother’s surprise and delight! Her father, who had caught wind of the commotion, rushed over to meet his daughter but joked that they had sent the ‘parcel’ to the wrong location.
“Nothing beats coming home,” she wrote in the video before it ends.
The clip has since been viewed over 24,000 times, with many netizens expressing how touched they were to see her family finally reunited.
