This time round, Malaysian citizen Alex has decided to take matters into his own hands to ensure that his ballots would reach Malaysia on time for the state elections this coming Saturday (12 August). According to Alex’s post, he revealed that he had missed the last general election and was determined to not miss the state elections this time round.
“We were honoured to have the opportunity to volunteer and help collect the postal votes in Sacremento area, passing it over to the runner located in the Bay area”, he said.
As the runner was scheduled to fly out on Tuesday, they had to post the ballots to the runner via overnight courier which costed about $84.21USD (RM384). After driving for two hours to post the ballots, they decided to head for dinner but unfortunately, their car was broken into, forcing them to drive home without windows in extremely cold weather.
Despite the turmoil that they faced, Alex remains grateful that they were able to exercise their rights and urged for Malaysians who staying locally to cast their votes.
“We’ve been through so much just to cast our vote, for those who are locally in Malaysia, please do your part too!”, he said.
Malaysians, this is a general reminder to go cast your vote if you’re living in areas where state elections will be ongoing!
