Children in general are usually curious of things around them. And where curiosity is at its peak, it could eventually lead them into doing things that aren’t right if they’re not given any proper guidance. With that said, a Malaysian recently has a change of heart and decided to write an apology note for a ‘crime’ committed over two decades ago.

“During the 90’s when I was eight, I did something that make me regret up until today”, wrote the letter.

Reading further, the sender mentioned that the owner’s shop used to sell collectible Pokémon stickers that cost around RM0.20 per sticker. The sender admitted his foolish mistake, which was stealing the stickers.

“I am not sure how much I took, but there were more or less 100 pieces”, said the letter.

The sender also attached a RM100 note in the apology letter, in hopes that the amount is enough to repay the damages he caused over two decades ago. Upon receiving the letter, shop owner, Liang Li Zhen (transliterated), shared to the Chinese Mail that she wasn’t aware that her stickers were stolen. Hence, she was shocked when she received the letter along with the RM100 note.

A change for the better is worth commending

“Unfortunately, I’m not able to identify who the sender is because in the letter, the person signed off as ‘guilty child'”, she said.

She also added the letter did not include any address and was only able to roughly locate that the letter was sent out from Ipoh by looking at the stamp on the envelope. As she recalls her days, she shared that she has been managing her shop for over three decades and used to sell some stationaries to help with the income.

When asked about how she felt when she received the letter, she shared that she was happy and surprised at the same time. However, she emphasised that the reason she’s happy isn’t because she received a RM100 compensation.

“I’m happy because I see the change of heart and acknowledging their mistake. The sender stole over RM20 worth of stickers, but decide to give a RM100 compensation”, she added.

She then shared that if the sender had come to apologise to her in person and gave her the RM100 as compensation, she wouldn’t have taken it but would gracefully accept is apology.

It’s great to see how the sender has acknowledge their mistake even after over two decades.
