Government announces free toll on 23rd & 26th December, in conjunction with Christmas

While the public transport infrastructure in Malaysia has advanced over the years, Malaysians still rely heavily on commuting around by car. With that said, toll fees are collected in certain highways to help maintain the road conditions.

Government announces free toll on 23rd & 26th December

Prior to this, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan shared that an announcement will be made regarding the matter. Following that, just recently, according to local newspaper Sin Chew Daily, the government has announced that Malaysians can now enjoy free toll on December 23 & 26, in conjunction with Christmas.

The local daily has also reported that the toll-free initiative will commence on December 23 at 12:01am sharp as well as December 26 at 12:01am. Recalling the past toll-free initiatives, deputy works minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan shared that back in April during the Raya celebrations, the government had paid RM80.4million.

Similarly, the government has also spent a total of RM42.31million and RM41.21million for Chinese New Year and Deepavali respectively. Following that, it was reported that the upcoming initiative will be applicable to 33 highways and help Malaysians save up to RM37million!
