M’sian mom sets up free mini library at playground

Located at Bangi Selangor, Qilah who is a mom decided to start a mini library at their neighbourhood playground. When asked why she has thought of the idea, she shared that she wishes to encourage young kids to read more! Speaking to Wau Post, Qilah shared that this isn’t the first time they’ve done something like that.

“It’s our second time setting up a mini library near our neighbourhood”, she mentioned.

Sharing her concept, Qilah said that much like any other public libraries, the kids are free to take any book from their collection and read when they’re at the playground. Once they’re done with the book, all they have to do is return it back to her.

“Most of the books we have are our own collection, while some of them are borrowed from the library”, she said.

Sharing her observation in her post, Qilah mentioned that most of the kids who came to the playground enjoyed reading the books. One of the young boys was even sitting on top of a slide reading. Asking about her plans with the mini library, other than encouraging kids to read, she also aims to conduct a read aloud session with the young toddlers. As of now, Qilah is not accepting any book donations due to limited space.

Indeed, a great initiative to get kids to start reading! What do you think of her idea? Let us know!
