It goes without saying that you should never drink and drive. Whether if its just one drink or many throughout the span of an evening, it is always advisable to have a designated driver present or to take a cab home instead of attempting to get behind the wheel when inebriated. After all, doing so would not only put you at risk but other road users and pedestrians as well.

Drunk driver crashes Honda SUV into parked cars

Unfortunately, this came to be proven true after an accident that occurred last Sunday (20th March 2022) saw both diners and workers at a restaurant along Old Klang Road sustaining injuries after a Honda SUV ploughed into a row of parked cars, causing them to run into occupied tables that were set close to the curb.

According to Harian Metro, Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said that the incident took place at 8.30pm in the evening, and occurred when the driver of the white Honda SUV had skidded and slammed into Lexus SUV as it was merging into the main road, causing it to skid into Perodua Axia that was parked right in-front of the restaurant. This led to a chain reaction, with the force of the impact causing the Axia to strike into diners sitting outside as well as two pedestrians who were present at the time.

10 people injured, 2 with broken limbs

Video footage obtained from a security camera positioned outside the restaurant showed the frightening speed at which the Lexus SUV collided with the parked Perodua.

Upon being screened, it was found that the driver of the Honda SUV had blood alcohol levels that were above the permitted limit at the time of the accident. He has since been remanded and will be investigated under Section 44 (1A) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987. If convicted, he could face a jail term of anywhere between 7 to 10 years, and a fine of anywhere between RM30,000 to RM50,000.
