We’ve all come across businesses that feature all sorts of interesting products, what more when they offer practical solutions that make our everyday lives easier. But what happens when creativity goes one step too far?

A Twitter post has been making its rounds on the Internet, exposing businesses that peddle artificially colored chicks! In what appears to be a marketplace, a buyer can be seen choosing her chick and purchasing the animal.

The user, Alissa, voices out her frustration in the post. “This actually makes me so sad. Do they really think this is normal? You need therapy,” she says. In the thread, Alissa attached a tweet that details the behind-the-scenes of coloring chicks. Following the video, it appears that the selling of these colourful chicks happens to be in Terengganu, with its actual whereabouts undisclosed.

Another user had expressed how ‘cute’ the colorful chicks looked, and shared a video which filmed the process. In response, Alissa was taken aback at how some people would find it adorable, as it looked more like the animal was suffering.

The tweet has divided netizens against one another, with many taking Alissa’s side while others maintaining an opposite stance. One netizen relates how traumatizing it must be for the chicks, as they were not born to be treated as objects. Another user chipped in, questioning the poor mentality and purpose behind selling such things.

On the other hand, several people have also justified the sellers’ actions, stating that the practice of dyeing chicks was neither harmful nor life-threatening to the animals.

Regardless of whether it is harmful or not, Alissa remained firm with her belief that animals should not be handled in that manner. “I know people are going to defend this practice by claiming it is not harmful, but this is still animal abuse,” she tweeted.

Just like humans, animals are living things too. Hence, they deserve to be treated ethically and not be viewed as playthings. We hope that further investigation would clarify this issue and lead to the necessary action in ensuring the wellbeing of these creatures.
