For pet owners, it’s undeniable that we’ll see them as family that provides comfort and companionship. With that said, pet owners are highly protective of their pets and would do anything in their power to ensure that their pet is safe and healthy. Unfortunately for this old man, his attempt to protect his furry companion had led him to his demise.

85-year-old M’sian man passes away while trying to stop his dog from being captured

According to local newspaper Sin Chew Daily, the 85-year-old man was trying to stop the local council from catching his dog while they were making rounds at Hero Garden in Bentong. The man named Huang Yun Hong (transliterated), was said to live alone along with his furry companion as all his children are working and residing in KL.

When he found out that the dog catchers were trying to capture his dog, he immediately rushed out to prevent the authorities from doing so. A neighbour has told the local newspaper that when the incident happened, he went ahead and help the old man by advising the dog catchers to let go of the catchpole, but they refused.

“He wouldn’t let go and the dog catchers were quite adamant, unfortunately he collapsed and fell into a drain”, said the neighbour.

After seeing him collapse, the neighbour immediately helped Huang up while the authorities called for an ambulance. Unfortunately, when the paramedics arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene. He added that he didn’t expect for Huang to pass away just after collapsing for 3 minutes.

It was reported that the old man would frequent to nearby coffeeshops in his bike, bringing along his furry friend, saying that Huang’s neighbours are distraught with the news of his passing. His funeral is currently held at his home and will be buried at 10am on Saturday (27 May).
