Christmas carol gathering in Sarawak sets new record for Malaysia’s Book of Records!

As Christmas is around the corner, plenty of those who celebrate it have begun their annual Christmas routine. With that said, plenty of events are lined up and just yesterday, a Christmas carol gathering in Sarawak has set a new record for Malaysia’s Book of Records.

According to local newspaper, The Borneo Post, it was said that an event, ‘A Christmas Carol, Sarawak in Diversity’, was held in Padang Merdeka, Sarawak. Taking place on a Sunday night (3 December), the event had attracted over 2,479 participants, far exceeding its expectation of gathering 1,500 participants initially.

Officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and accompanied by Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, the lighting of a large Christmas tree in front of the Plaza Merdeka shopping mall marks the start of the programme!

To start the night filled with carols, Christmas songs like ‘O Holy Night’, were sung, followed by ‘Feliz Navidad’, ‘Carols of the Bells’, ‘Deck the Halls’, ’12 Days of Christmas’ and ‘Last Christmas” performed, the event ended with fellow carollers singing ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’.

Organised by Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) and supported by TV Sarawak, it was reported that the event will be aired on a television channel on 23 December. With the event surpassing its initial expected participants, it has successfully set a new record in the Malaysia Book of Records!

An awesome achievement and truly a good way to promote peace and understanding amongst the community!
