Not too long ago, Russian content creators and climbers Angela Nikolau and her partner Ivan Beerkus have courted much controversy in Malaysia, after they claim to have managed to climb atop the spire of the world’s second tallest building, Merdeka 118.

Clips of Angela in bright-red garb standing perilously at the very tip of the structure as a drone films her overlooking the sprawling expanse of Kuala Lumpur have since gone viral, which was followed by a series of Tweets by the social media personality explaining how she managed to evade security and complete the climb.

With local netizens concerned for the apparent lackadaisical security at the tower, local authorities have subsequently launched an investigation to locate the duo for trespassing. However, it would appear that they are not the only ones who managed the feat.

4 American daredevils claim they have also climbed the spire of Merdeka 118

As it turns out, American former army paratrooper and now self-styled urban explorer Isaac ‘Drift’ Wright has also revealed that he and three other friends have also made it up to the top of the spire in a video that was uploaded to his YouTube channel on December 30th, 2022.

Describing their journey as ‘long and difficult and full of challenges’, he adds that they were well aware that the odds were stacked against them as previous attempts by others have resulted in jail time.

Documenting the climb, the four men could be seen entering through restricted sections of the tower, and even battling thunderstorms as they ascended further up along the 679-metre structure. The video ended with them reaching the tip of the spire, capturing panoramic vistas of Malaysia’s capital.

It is unclear at this time if local authorities are aware of their exploits, and if any action will be taken against them for the act.
