One of the most painful heartaches a parent has to experience is to witness their child go through immense pain and not being able to do anything to help them. Unfortunately, a Malaysian mother named Nurul Hidayah had to endure it first-hand when she shared how her 9-year-old son suffered extensive injuries as a result of a burst pipe.

9yo boy suffers third degree burns, hospitalised after pipe explodes

According to her Facebook post from February 1st, she explained that her family was about to have dinner at around 10.00pm when suddenly they heard an explosion coming from the kitchen followed by her son, Haidar, screaming. Her husband and her ran to the kitchen thinking that it could be a gas leak that caused the noise but as they stepped into the kitchen they were left in shock.

It appeared that the pipe located on top of their kitchen has exploded, causing the remnants of soda acid to splatter all over her kitchen and her son.

“My son was frying an egg and the neighbours living upstairs has used soda powder in attempts to unclog their pipe. Unfortunately, the soda powder that they used may have been too strong causing the pipe to explode and injuring my son”, she said.

Following that, she quickly asked her two other older children to head upstairs to notify the neighbour of the situation while her injured son and her husband ran to the toilet. As they were trying their best to help their son clean off the remnants of the acid, the said neighbours rushed to the scene and could only offer their apologies.

“We tried to keep our cool and asked for the neighbour to send us to the hospital.

My son was shivering uncontrollably in the car and when we reached the hospital, he was attended immediately by the doctors and staff”, she said.

Upon initial checks, the doctor has mentioned that his body has suffered from third degree burns and because of the remnants of the acid that got into his eyes, an outer layer of his iris has been damaged. When asked about the recovery of his eyes, the doctor revealed that there could only be a 50% chance.

“The doctor has also mentioned to us that they may have to transfer Haidar to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) as his condition was really bad”, she said.

As of now, Haidar is admitted into the hospital to help with his recovery. Physiology doctors were sent to check on him as his affected arm and legs are showing signs of swelling. Fortunately, doctors have mentioned that the swelling will go down once he is more active in moving his body.
