What appears to be a shabby wooden house outside entails an 8-year-old girl who made it a point to ensure that her room is well decorated and clean. Filled with the colour pink, this girl has transformed her tiny room into her own safe haven, which brought tears to a fellow social activist, Syed Azmi who shared the story.

Following his post, Syed shared that him and his team have visited over 10 houses at the same area, bringing them same daily necessities to ensure that they’re able to sustain their livelihood. Of all the families he visited, he mentioned that this family came across as the poorest amongst the rest, however they were adamant to make use with what they have, ensuring that their cleanliness is maintained.

“As I walked around their house, I noticed a room on the upper floor that was pink”, he said.

While the space was small, he was very in awe with how tidy and clean the room was. He then found out that the room actually belonged to an 8-year-old girl, and she has taken the liberty to decorate her tiny space into her own haven. Probing further, Syed was told that their house is affected by the flash flood annually, which is why they have minimal furniture at their lower floor. The upper floor has been partitioned for their three children, so they could have their own space to study and rest.

He was also told that the family would frequently encounter issues with clean water supply, especially after the flood. While there is a well near their house, the water in the well cannot be used as it’s contaminated. Nonetheless, the issue of not having clean water supply does not stop the family from keeping their house as clean as possible.

In a separate post, Syed has revealed that the father of the child is the sole breadwinner of the family and works as a truck driver. Unfortunately, his income is unstable most of the time and they’re living from paycheck to paycheck, but the silver lining is that all three children are in school. Touched by their story, Syed shared that his main takeaway from the visitation is definitely the cleanliness they’re able to maintain.

“This has shown me that being poor doesn’t give you an excuse to have a dirty house”, he said. Syed then urged for those who wish to help to contact him for more information.
