Over the recent years, many scam cases have been making their rounds and plenty of people have been trying to be as wary as possible. And while we are able be as careful with outsiders, who would’ve thought that our own family would betray our trust? Just recently, news broke out that a 73-year-old retiree was shocked to find out that all her money has been transferred.

According to local newspaper China Press, the 73-year-old retiree, has lost over $180,000SGD (RM600,000) of her life savings. While she is heartbroken to know that her hard-earned money is gone, she was devastated to find out that her money was actually taken by her youngest daughter.

“My husband and I worked our entire lives and managed to save up about RM600,000”, she said adding that she worked as a dish washer for the past three decades.

Following her story, aunty said that she decided to transfer her savings into three separate joint accounts that she opened with her youngest daughter back in 2021. She shared that she has taken out about $50,000SGD (RM170,000) for some personal use, leaving her to about RM400,000 of savings left.

Met with financial difficulties

Unfortunately, she didn’t realise that her youngest daughter has been transferring her savings to her personal account until she received a bank statement back in June. The bank statement she received stated that one of her joint accounts that had $80,500SGD (RM290,000) was left with only $180SGD (RM617).

Sensing that something’s off, she quickly checked her other two joined accounts and found out that both her accounts have less than $60 SGD (RM180). Feeling devastated, she contacted her daughter, and she admitted saying that she has used the money and vowed to return her the money slowly. Left with no choice and with the help of her eldest daughter, she was able to lodge a police report against her other daughter.

“Ever since we found out that my sister had stolen the money, she has been hard to reach and has stopped replying to mother’s messages”, she said.

Prior to this, the aunty’s youngest daughter and her husband started a business venture together but was met with some financial difficulties. The couple has since moved to Johor while they’re waiting for their renovation to be completed, making it more difficult to reach them.

Whatever the case is RM400,000 is not a small amount and we hope it gets resolved as soon as possible.
