On June 1, a woman named Angie Chong Sum Yee had flown over to Chiang Mai Thailand alone and was said to have visited the country in order to purchase items for her friends as a side hustle. The 22-year-old beautician was reported to have encountered financial difficulties, thus resulting in looking for a side hustle.

According to local newspaper Sin Chew Daily, Angie’s mother, Ms. Chu (transliterated), revealed that she and her daughter aren’t living together due to Angie’s career. After graduating from secondary school, Angie had moved over to Puchong and has been working in a facial treatment centre.

She shared that Angie and she would keep in contact with each other every other day and when she headed over to Chiang Mai, the last time she was in contact with Angie was at 10am. Subsequently, when she tried to contact Angie, she couldn’t get ahold of her and decided to share a post on her social media.

Thai authorities alerted, to check with immigration department

Ms. Chu expressed that with the recent news about Malaysians getting trafficked into neighbouring countries, she is afraid that her daughter has also fallen victim to these scams. Following that, she has filed a missing person report in Malaysia and alerted the Thai authorities about her daughter’s case.

Garnering the attention of the Thai authorities, they were quick to find out that on the day when Angie went missing, she was seen using her phone at the waiting area before engaging in conversation with a lady dressed in a white shirt. Shortly after, Angie was seen following the lady and left the building in a motorcycle with the woman.

Unfortunately, she has not returned since and Thai authorities have been working hard to trace her whereabouts and check if there are any records of her entering into their neighbouring country, Myanmar.

We hope that Angie can be found safely, and the case can be resolved as soon as possible.
