“Their visas have been extended”, sinkhole victim’s family receives visa extension for a month

Just over the weekend, netizens were stunned by the news of a woman who fell into a sink hole as she was walking along Jalan Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur. Following the incident, initial investigations have identified the woman, as well as her family, revealing that they’re of Indian nationality.

As the incident escalates, many relevant authorities, including the fire and rescue department have been dispatched to the scene for a rescue operation. Unfortunately, after over 3 days of operation, they’ve yet to find any traces of the woman, other than one of her slippers that she was wearing.

Understanding the distraught that has been brought to the family, the police have urged for the victim’s family to extend their stay as relevant authorities continue to work hard to resolve the matter. With that said, special officer Arvend Applasamy, representing deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has headed over to the scene to comfort and show support to the victim’s family.

In a short interview with the media, Arvend shared that they’ve been doing all they can to facilitate the victim’s family and has also offered them a visa extension for a month.

“We want to be there for them and help them out as much as possible. One of the ways to do that is to extend their visas so they wouldn’t have to worry about overstaying”, he said.

On top of that, some donations, as well as food and drinks were offered to the victim’s family as part of their good will to ensure the victim’s family that they will be given full support, in light of the incident.

“We’ve also arranged for accommodation for the victim’s family as well as counselling sessions by our trained counsellors from Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM).

The woman, Vijayaletchumi who is 48 years old was said to be on a 2-month vacation in Malaysia with her husband, son and some relatives. It was reported that they would be returning back to their country the day after.
