Living in Southeast Asia would mean that our food would share some similarities. One of the most famous kuih that most Southeast Asians would know is Kuih Lapis. As the name suggests, Kuih Lapis is a type of cake that has 9 layers typically eaten during tea time as a snack.

Just recently, a video on TikTok was circulating has left many Southeast Asians delighted as the caught a glimpse of the famous teatime snack, kuih lapis. In the video, a woman named Rachel Khoo was seen introducing the famous kuih to a man sitting across her.

As she unveils the cover she said,

“Darren, this is my rainbow lapis.”

Delighted by the sight of the dessert, Darren expressed how amazing it looked as the colours were absolutely vibrant, making the kuih looking more delicious. She then explained that the snack is very popular amongst the Southeast Asians and said that the said kuih is made of coconut, tapioca flour and rice flour.

She also shared that baking the dessert doesn’t require any oven ad it is steamed! Following that, Darren said that the cake is the perfect cake for international week. As they were about to eat the kuih, Rachel then mentioned to Darren that the kuih is “not really a job for the fork and spoon”.

Feeling intrigued, Rachel then explained to Darren that most Southeast Asians would eat the kuih by peeling it off layer by layer. Following the video, plenty of netizens then left their comments, expressing their excitement.
