From the rolling hills of Cameron Highlands to the picturesque shores of Langkawi, to the stunning forests and mountains of Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia is well-known for being a treasure trove for intrepid adventurers and tourists.

And with that in mind, one Thai man has recently taken it upon himself to explore what our country has to offer on his humble motorbike by travelling on his own, while cataloguing his experiences to share with others online!

Thai backpacker journeys into Malaysia on his motorbike

In his latest series of clips, popular Thai travel content creator บอลพาเที่ยว Backpacker Ball recounts how he had made the decision to embark upon an expansive solo journey from his native Thailand before crossing past international borders into Malaysia, Singapore, and eventually Indonesia.

Charting his voyage from the Central Thai province of Nonthaburi, he rode his motorcycle for 19 hours Southbound to the border town of Sadao, before making his way into Kedah where the Malaysian leg of his itinerary officially began. While expressing some nervousness over the fact that this was his first time travelling abroad on his own motorbike, he said that all went well with immigration and that he was granted a full-month’s stay in Malaysia.

He adds that despite being in a foreign land, navigating around Malaysia has been smooth and fuss-free with help from his GPS. Naturally upon arriving, his first-stop was to visit a local nasi kandar restaurant to fill up his stomach with. He then made haste to Alor Setar, located 53km away from Sadao.

Penang sights and sounds

After spending a night at a hotel, he then rode down to Penang by crossing over the Penang Bridge. As he entered the island, he made a few pit-stops at some notable Penang tourist hotspots including a few of their notable murals, before cooling off with a cup of iced Vietnamese coffee.

His travels then took him up the hills to the renowned Kek Lok Si Temple, which famously houses a 36.57-metre-tall statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Kuanyin, as well as a seven-storey Pagoda dedicated to the late Thai king Rama VI. This was followed by a short stint by Batu Ferringhi Beach and of course, a jaunt into Penang’s famous street food scene by night.
