In light of the relaxed restrictions concerning local travel, we’re not surprised to see that many Malaysians have taken the opportunity to stretch our their legs to enjoy the outdoors once more. Which is why as of late, local forest reserves have been among some of the most popular weekend destinations for many local families, granting a much-needed respite from the monotony of city life.
Over 72 forest reserves in Selangor to be closed for 2 months
However, if you’re looking to plan a hiking excursion with your buddies come sometime this month, you may have to put that idea in the backburner for at least two months, as the Selangor Forestry Department has just announced the closure of all forest reserves in the state effective from 1st December 2021 to 31st January 2022 over their official Facebook page.
And when they mean that you are forbidden from entering these forest reserves, they absolutely do mean it as legal action will be taken upon trespassers under the National Forestry Act of 1985 (Application) Enactment. If found guilty, you may face a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or a jail term not exceeding three years for illegal entry into the forest reserves. However, no specific reason was provided as to why the forest reserves were sealed off to the public.
According to Dewan Negeri Selangor, the state currently still maintains as many as 72 different national forest reserves, many of which are popular hiking hotspots for locals. Scroll down to check out the full list:
