Throngs of visitors and office workers who were in Suria KLCC and Petronas Tower 3 were left scrambling out of the major landmark yesterday (August 9th 2022) after fire alarms broke out around 5.00pm in the evening. According to local paper Kosmo!, the emergency response was triggered by a brazen blaze that had broken out in the sauna of a popular gym which was located on the ground floor of the popular Kuala Lumpur mall.

Quoting a statement released by the local Fire and Rescue Department, an emergency call concerning the matter was received at around 5.21pm in the evening, before 13 firefighters and two fire engines from the Jalan Hang Tuah and Titiwangsa Fire Brigade were dispatched to the scene.
“When the fire brigade arrived, it was found that a fire had broken out in a sauna room measuring 7 x 12 square feet, which was on the G floor of Menara 3 Suria KLCC.” they said.
The mall’s very own in-house team had also responded swiftly to the sudden emergency within 10 minutes, and managed to evacuate all of those present in mall premises prior to firefighters arriving.
Photos of the scene show the small space completely razed by the flames, leaving nothing left but burnt debris marred black by smoke and ash in the wake of the unexpected calamity.

Coverage from local newspaper The Sun reports that the fire was extinguished in 9 minutes time, with no injuries or causalities reported. However, 80% of the sauna was destroyed.

Photos and videos of the emergency response have since made the rounds over social media, with netizens showing crowds waiting outside the vicinity of the mall as firefighters worked to temper the fire. At this point in time, the true cause as to the fire will be investigated by the authorities.
