With the cost-of-living rising, the government has been coming up with initiatives to help Malaysians tide through hardships. Just recently, Deputy Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan shares that the government is set to distribute RM100 e-wallet credit to Malaysians who earn less than RM100k per year. The RM100 e-wallet credit initiative was announced back in July by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to the Deputy Finance Minister’s statement, over 10 million Malaysians with an annual income of less than RM100,000 will benefit from this initiative. Other than that, local newspaper Sin Chew Daily also mentioned that the RM100 e-wallet credit is a new initiative as more than 10 million people will benefit from it.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan also shared that as compared to the previous initiatives from the government where 2 million youths were assisted with the RM200 e-wallet credits, this is a significant increase.

“Many have asked for the definition of annual income, I’d like to clarify that the RM100,000 threshold refers to individual income and not household income”, he said.

He added that the total allocation of the initiative amounts to RM1 billion, and all eligible individuals aged 21 and above will be able to receive the RM100 e-wallet credit. When asked when the e-wallet credit will be distributed, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan shared that the e-wallet credit will be distributed starting from December, however exact dates have yet to be disclosed.
