Penang declares Nov 18th as a state holiday, following after Selangor & Negeri Sembilan

As you will no doubt have read about in the news by now, Malaysians all across the country will be expected to carry out their civic duties at the polls on November 19th (Saturday) during the 15th General Elections. As such, a number of initiatives have been mounted by both government quarters as well as private parties alike, in order to facilitate and encourage those eligible to return to their constituencies and vote.

Penang declares November 18th a state holiday 

Among them include the recent series of announcements from both Selangor and Negeri Sembilan state governments, who have since declared the eve of polling day as a state holiday. And now according to local news outlet Free Malaysia Today, the Pearl of the Orient, Penang, will also be taking after the trend and has declared November 18th, 2022 a state holiday.

Understandably, Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the decision to pass a state holiday next Friday was to grant voters more time to make travel arrangements and head back to their respective hometowns prior to the elections.

Caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri has also been urged by Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari to consider declaring November 18th, 2022 a public holiday across the country. As of Tuesday (November 8th, 2022), Sabri said that the government will be looking into a proposal to do so.
