As Chinese New Year approaches, many Malaysians would take the opportunity to give themselves a break and head back to their hometown. In an initiative to help with the traffic, the government has agreed to waive the toll fees in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

Similar to previous years, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi revealed that the waiver of toll fees would cost the government an estimate of RM42.99 million.
“We hope that the waiver of the toll fees can help lessen the burden of those who are returning to their hometowns”, he said.
Speaking to the local daily, NST about the implementation of the waiver of toll fees, works minister mentioned that the exemption will begin at 12:01am on February 8 at all highways and will end at 11:59pm on February 9. Along with the implementation of the exemption, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi also advised road users to check their time travel advisory.
While toll fees will be waived on 8 & 9 of February, the works minister has also prompted road users to ensure that their Touch N’ Go and other eWallet balances have sufficient funds to avoid any unwanted stops at the toll when they return from their hometowns.
“We also encourage road users to adhere to all safety rules when driving”, said the works ministers.
Happy Chinese New Year to those who are celebrating! Have a safe journey!
