As the cost-of-living increases due to inflation, it’s inevitable that things like a cup of coffee would also increase in price. With that said, many would treat it as a luxury to indulge in a cup of coffee from famous coffee chains! Just recently, a student has shared a picture of her drink and her receipt with a eye-catching price.

Just yesterday (May 10), a Facebook user has posted a picture of her drink along with the receipt onto a confession page called MMU Confessions. In her post, the student had revealed that she has bought a cup of Frappuccino for an exorbitant price. Looking at the price breakdown on the receipt, the drink she originally ordered was RM21.50. But she had a total of 5 extra add-ons onto her drink ranging from RM2 to RM6.15.

Subsequently, it was also apparent that she had purchased a reusable straw from the coffee franchise for the RM1. Based on the add-ons that she had purchased, the total price for her drink came up to a whopping RM44.10. Shocked by the price, she then shared in the post mentioning that the only reason she had that many add-ons was because she couldn’t understand what the barista was asking.

“I couldn’t understand what she was saying so I just nodded along to all the questions she asked”, she said.

Her post has since garnered over 1,000 shares on Facebook, with plenty of netizens commenting and here’s what some of them said:

“The next time you order and they ask if you want any add-ons remember to ask if it’s free.”

“When the employee asks if I’d like to top up, I’d usually politely decline. Once I say that, they will stop asking and I would proceed by asking if adding cream on top would be free. If they tell me that the cream is free, I’d tell them that I would like some. You shouldn’t feel ashamed to ask or clarify with the barista, there’s no fault in that.”

“It seems like the barista held back as she felt bad for you, if not it would’ve been more expensive.”

“I would usually tell them that anything that doesn’t require me to pay I’d want it added, but if I need to pay for the add-ons, I will decline.”

“If you don’t understand you should ask. If you don’t understand and you agree to it then that’s on you. This is not just a matter of understanding the language they speak; it reflects on how you deal with matters when you’re in society. If you say yes to everything, at the end of the day, you’ll suffer.”
