As the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover and this applies to every social situation in life. Regardless of their choice of occupation in life, it’s important to note that one shouldn’t judge them based on their line of work, as long as they’re making an honest living out of it.

M’sian woman shares how she quit her corporate job to become a convenience store assistant

Just recently, a Malaysian has shared her story of how she has decided to switch her line of work from being a corporate associate in project management to a convenience store assistance. In a post shared by Malaysian Pay Gap on Instagram, the woman has said that she would always see an increase in terms of salary on the posts and she’d like to share something different.

“I used to work as an associate in project management with a base salary of RM3,700”, she said.

She explained further saying that while the salary was attractive, she had to be on call almost 24/7 while trying to meet the tight project deadlines. Subsequently, this has caused her mental and physical health to deteriorate, leading her to quit her job. After her resignation, she decided to work as a convenience store assistant where she was earning approximately RM1,500 per month.

She added that she knew it was less than half of what she had earned prior to this but has noticed significant changes in her physical and mental health. She revealed that being a convenience store assistant would require her to work 6 days a week but her working hours are fixed from 8am to 6pm.

“I can shut off right after work and not have to bring any work back home”, she mentioned.

This job switch has allowed her to fully unwind and take care of her health and she shared that she would even have the time and energy to cook her own meals. Despite her salary being lower, she revealed that she is much happier now and is able to still live within her means.

Following her post, plenty of Malaysians have left their comments and here’s what they said:
