Throughout the annals of time, Malaysia has played host to a wide spectrum of communities hailing from all sorts of different cultures and heritages. And in spite of all our differences, our country has flourished under a united tapestry made possible through the common and tacit understanding of mutual respect and compromise.
M’sian neighbours order KFC for Muslim family as their party only served non-Halal food
And just recently, local TikTok user @eikinhanipah, otherwise known as Ms Eikin Hanipah, took to sharing a particularly heartwarming experience that she had recently encountered. In a brief clip uploaded to the popular video sharing platform, she explained that her Chinese neighbours who were living next to her home had decided to organise a birthday party for their child.
Set up with outdoor tents and tables to seat their guests, all appears to be quite a lavishly appointed affair. However, Eikin said that owing to the fact that much of the food served will be non-Halal, their neighbours have informed them that they decided not to invite her family to join in the celebration out of respect to their beliefs.
The gesture touched the hearts of many
With that being said, her neighbours weren’t about to leave them out from the festivities either.
“They told me later on not to buy any food tonight, as they have already ordered a meal of KFC for us.
So here it is. Good neighbours are a blessing, aren’t they?” she wrote.
And indeed, Eikin shows how she had received a hearty serving of food, courtesy of the family living next door. In speaking with Wau Post, Eikin shares that they have known the family for around 4 years now.
Her video has since gone viral across the local social media space, accruing as many as 2.1 million views. Many netizens have taken to praising her neighbours for their kindness and consideration for those living around them, while also sharing similarly heartwarming stories of their own.
“It’s nice to have such kind neighbours. They really know how to maintain cordial relations within the community.”
“My Chinese friend who got married, they reserved an entire table for us, which served only Halal food. They’re really nice.”
“People such as myself who are non-Muslim, my Muslim neighbours would always give me food. And when I order Pizza Hut, I’ll order some for them too.”
“We used to have neighbours like these. Every Chinese New Year and Christmas, they’ll always gift us food.”
