M’sian couple sells homemade satay at RM0.70 per stick to earn a living

Satay is a popular dish that consists of skewered and grilled meat, usually served with a flavorful peanut sauce. With that said, many Malaysians would often crave for satay as it’s an easy yet hearty dish that’s tantalizing to the tastebuds.

According to local newspaper Sinar Harian, a couple hailing from Rembau has managed to make a living by selling their satay at RM0.70 per stick. Prior to selling satay, Noriza shared that her husband, Izzat Amir used to work as a supervisor in a factory. After he finishes his shift, both him and Noriza would start selling satays at 5:30pm to help increase their income.

“We started selling satays 2 years ago and our supplier was my brother-in-law”, said Noriza, adding that he has been selling satay for over 10 years.

Following that, the couple decided to experiment with their own recipe, and finally landed on one that allowed to sell out every day. And while the cost-of-living and material goods have been increasing, the couple decided to remain their prices at RM0.70 per stick as they believe that everyone deserves to enjoy their food.

“It’s also our way of giving back to the society”, she mentioned.

Value for money

Maintaining the price of their satay has also encouraged the locals to support them, with many of them buying in bulk. That being said, sales could soar up to 800 sticks per day! Diving deeper, Noriza also revealed that the key to their mouthwatering satays actually come from the marination of the satay.

“We marinate the meat the night before it’s grilled and we repeat this process everyday as all our satays are sold out by the end of the day”, she said.

Making a name for themselves, the couple also shared that they’ve received plenty of bookings from their customers to prepare satay for various occasions and events. As their business kicks off, the couple was thrilled to find out that they have many customers that would travel from elsewhere to taste their satay!
