According to a study published by Holiday Money Report, Penang was ranked as the 11th best value destination to visit. This marks a significant achievement for Penang and Malaysia as it didn’t manage to be listed last year. Looking at the report, it was said that the barometer was based on 8 individual items which were:

  • Coffee
  • Beer
  • Cola
  • Wine
  • Water
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Three-course meal

Surging to the top for the first time after placing at 6th place last year, Vietnam is one of only eight destinations to combine lower local prices (down 14.4% in Hoi An) with falling currency values. Based on the individual items listed above, the average expenses needed in Penang would cost around $74.57 GBP (RM443.97).
