The revolutionary feat was witnessed at the Yonex Co., Ltd. Tokyo Factory gymnasium in Soka, Saitama, Japan on the 14th of April 2023. Malaysia’s national women’s doubles player Pearly Tan, 23, made history with a record-breaking smash flying at a speed of 438 km per hour.

Impressively, Pearly managed this incredible triumph despite an elbow injury she picked up just last month. Pearly had sustained a tear to her right elbow ligament, knocking her out of the Singapore Open early this June.

Surpassing the Guiness World Records for the world’s fastest smash, Pearly was joined by Indian player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy for the men’s category, recording a speed of 565 km/h.

For Malaysians, this is truly an accomplishment to hold up high, thanks to the extraordinary talent of our treasured athlete. Well done, Pearly!
