The young athlete made history with a momentous win at the Asian Continental Qualifiers Tournament in Bangkok last Friday. Ariana, who was not a part of the first team lineup, stunned the entire nation when she emerged victorious at the top.

Beating Uzbekistan’s Ziyodakhon Abdusattorova by 7-3, she was able to clinch the gold medal after a lengthy battle. The Malaysian archer shot 649 points in the 70-metre ranking rounds, that is 36 arrows in total. Moreover, she set a brand new national record high by scoring 337 points, surpassing the previous 331 point-mark from Nur Aqilah Yusof at the 2016 Malaysia Games in Sarawak.

“I haven’t participated in many international competitions, and securing a spot in the Olympics is a very big step for me,” she told SpoTV. The archer will also be joined by fellow Malaysian sportsmen, including diver Bertrand Rhodict Lises, sailor Nur Shazrin Latif and shooter Johnathan Wong.
