Pets are animals that are kept by people for companionship, entertainment, or as a source of comfort. It can provide emotional and social benefits to their owners, such as reducing stress and loneliness, and promoting a sense of well-being. While having a pet may seem like a good idea, it’s important to note that one should make sure that they’re capable of taking care of their pets as it would require constant attention.

Johor mall hosted a fat cat competition that sparked debate among netizens

Just over the weekend, a mall located in Johor has hosted a pet fair with several competitions for pet owners and their pets to participate in. Amongst the competitions available, one of the events that caught the public’s attention is the ‘fat cat competition’. Straightforward as it is, the competition was held to showcase cats that are overweight.

Pet owners who have registered for the competition would be asked to bring their pet cat over to the weighing station, and weigh their cats on the machine. The mall has posted various pictures of the fur babies being weighed on the scale and plenty of netizens have tagged their friends in the comments to check out the chonky cats.

However, the event has since sparked debate online as netizens are concerned that events like these would encourage pet owners to overfeed their pets, leading them to an unhealthy lifestyle.

A netizen thinks that this sort of competition shouldn’t be promoted as it will encourage some pet owners to intentionally overfeed their cat.

Another netizen highlighted that Guinness book world records have banned the fattest cat record back in 1998.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea to overfeed your cats until they’re obese, wouldn’t there be health problems? Isn’t this a way to encourage pet owners to overfeed their cats?”
