According to local newspaper The Star, an unnamed source had earlier mentioned yesterday that he was transported to Hospital Kuala Lumpur after suffering from an episode in prison. It was said that a separate news portal had also claimed that his hospital admission was due to intestinal bleeding, though this has not been confirmed up to this point.

“I wish to thank prison authorities and Hospital Kuala Lumpur staff for the cooperation and help given,” Mukhlis said.

This comes shortly after his landmark guilty conviction on corruption charges relating to the RM42 million of funds found in his accounts from SRC International Sdn Bhd on August 23rd 2022. Najib, who bears the distinction of being the first Malaysian Prime Minister in the country’s history to be placed behind bars, is currently serving a 12-year prison term and has also been instructed to pay off a RM210 million fine.

His wife was recently convicted on graft charges as well

His wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, was also recently found guilty on bribery charges by the Kuala Lumpur High Court due to her involvement in the RM1.25 billion Sabah solar hybrid project, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison alongside a whopping RM970 million fine.

Her lawyer, Jagjit Singh, claims that the fine amount is ‘unprecedented’ and was the ‘largest in Malaysian history; reports Free Malaysia Today. The 70-year-old former First Lady posted RM2 million bail and is currently attempting to file an appeal with the Court of Appeal.
