M’sian who sells fish tempoyak at her gerai generously offers free rice for her customers

For those who are unfamiliar, Tempoyak is made from fermented durian fruit, which is known for its strong smell and distinctive taste. To make Tempoyak, durian flesh is mixed with salt and left to ferment for several days or weeks. Just recently, a Malaysian woman has gone viral for her kindness while selling her famous Tempoyak.

Selling her famous dish at Kampung Telaga Daing, Jalan Teluk Ketapang, Nor Muniza Sabri has taken the initiative to offer her customers free rice when they support her business. When asked why she decided to do so, she shared that it was her way of thanking her customers and helping the society out.

“Many people are struggling nowadays, and this is what I can offer to help”, she said.

Speaking to local newspaper Sinar Harian, she also added that by giving out free rice, she is able to fulfill one of her wishes to help people daily. Selling her famous Tempoyak over 5 to 6 years ago, Nor Muniza has gained recognition from the community and has since started delving into the world of social media.

Despite the price increase in raw materials as well as basic necessities, the kind woman mentioned that she intends to continue giving out free packs of rice for as long as they can sustain. Having only a small stall by the roadside, Muniza shared that she would sell about 10-20 packs of Tempoyak.

Remains persistent in not wanting to charge for rice

But with Ramadhan coming up, Muniza is expecting a hike in sales, selling up to 30-40 packs. Other than tempoyak, she also sells sambal hitam Pahang, sambal ikan bilis tumis with tempoyak and sambal ikan bilis pucuk ubi. As for the rice that she offers, she explains that a pot of rice would allow her to pack about 22 packs of rice.

“Many customers have asked me to charge for the rice, as they believe that rice is quite expensive these days, but I told them I want to this out of the goodness of my heart”, she mentioned.

As of now, Muniza accepts pre-orders and her little business that helps support her family is assisted by her husband, Mohd Norul Ismawi as well as her parents, Nawiah Zainuddin and Sabri Abu bakar.
