Just a few months back, Malaysians were surprised to find out that Oyen (orange cat) is living with a bunch of Capybaras at the zoo. Adorable clips and pictures were shared online to showcase how the cat and capybaras were able to live in harmony!
“Capybara & Oyen” Zoo Negara Makes This Cute Friendship Official
This unlikely duo first came about when the orange cat was spotted roaming around the capybara enclosure. Who would have thought that a cat and a giant rodent could be friends? That’s right, capybaras belong to the same family as mice! And ever since then, the furry feline is frequently seen hanging out with its new friends, eating and chilling about.
Surely, its presence did not go unnoticed as Zoo Negara recently uploaded a video on their Tiktok to showcase their newest exhibit signage. Reading “Capybara & Oyen”, the 25-second clip shows an orange tail peeking behind a capybara, before the ‘Oyen’ member appears onscreen. Both species looked to be getting along just fine and were seen sharing a meal together.
It is not known exactly when this friendship started, but the stray cat was believed to have wandered in during the Covid-19 lockdown. According to Astro Awani, the zoo tends to keep wild animals off limits as it could pose as a threat to other animals. As the zoo continues to monitor their condition, it seems like the feline and the capybaras are enjoying each other’s company.
Guess it’s true what they say, the best friendships are always the ones you never expect!
