Distressed mother reveals that her 11yo son had passed away due to heatstroke

Just yesterday (28 April) at 9:27am, an 11-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the Balai health clinic near Bachok. Initial investigations have revealed that the boy was suffering from heatstroke and dehydration, leading to his demise. According to local newspaper NST, the boy’s mother, Wanie Alias, has mentioned that her son was still healthy and active during the first two days of the Raya celebrations.

“He was cycling around during Raya and caught a fever shortly after”, she said.

The boy, who is the eldest of three siblings began vomiting with his body temperature shooting up 38 Degree Celsius at one point. Wanie mentioned that she was monitoring her son’s condition closely by checking in on him every hour before deciding to send him to a nearby clinic for medical treatment.

Unfortunately, as they were getting ready to send him to the nearby clinic, the boy suffered an epileptic seizure. Seeing that his conditions have worsened, the couple then sent the boy to the health clinic where he was immediately put on drip and given oxygen by the doctor on duty.

However, despite the doctor’s urgency to treat him, his pulse had suddenly stopped and became unconscious. The doctor tried his best to save his life by performing CPR on the boy but unfortunately, he passed on. Subsequently, the boy’s body was sent to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital’s (HRPZ II) Forensics Unit for post-mortem, revealing that the boy had indeed suffered from dehydration and heatstroke.

“All his internal organs, including his heart and kidneys were frizzled”, adding that the blood and fluids in the boy’s body had dried up.

Following her son’s passing, Wanie has urged all parents to be wary of the hot weather and make sure that their children are well hydrated and not under the sun for long hours.

Condolences to the family and may you rest in peace, Syamil.
