Where sporting talents are concerned, we Malaysians are never in short supply. From squash to badminton to track-and-field, our country has stood among the best across the globe in the sporting arena. Despite that, a number of recent incidents have highlighted a growing concern over social media for the reality that our national athletes are facing.
Former M’sian footballer forced to auction his medals for RM30k
According to a post by former footballer, Jamsari Sabian, he was forced to make an incredibly hard decision by auctioning his medals that he won back in his glorious days from 2001 to 2004. When approached by Sukan Sinar, the goalkeeping coach revealed that his salary has yet to be paid for months.
Facing financial constraints from his missed salary payments, he had no choice but to auction his medals for RM30k to tide him through. Serving as the goalkeeping coach for Kelantan United in the last season, many were shocked to find this unjust treatment.
Speaking to Sukan Sinar, Jamsari expressed his sincerity in wanting to auction of his medals and asked for those who want to buy his medals to contact him. Elaborating further regarding his unpaid salaries, he shared that the management has paid him his salary for August and September, but his salary for the remaining months have yet to be paid.
Management starts paying outstanding amount
Looking at the picture he posted, the medals that Jamsari is looking to auction are medals he won in the Malaysia Cup, Sumbangsih Cup, FAM Cup, and the Premier League. When asked about the issue of his delayed salary payments, the former footballer expressed his disappointment and frustration.
“I retired early because of similar issues; I didn’t expect for this to happen even after I returned as a coach”, he added.
Fortunately, on Monday, Jamsari shared another Facebook post regarding the issue, emphasising that the management has started paying the outstanding amount, expressing his gratitude for it.
