“At the point of time, I still took it as a form of exercise, but when I was 11, I started taking it more seriously, wanting to make sure that I would do well”, she said.

At the age of 15, she decided to pursue Squash fulltime, leading to her rising career. Despite her booming career, Sivasangari never gave up on her studies, obtaining her degree in Communications at Cornell University.

It’s never easy becoming a professional sports player

Speaking to Wau Post, Sivasangari shared that one of the most challenging things about playing squash is handling the pressure when participating in tournaments.

“I think this is when the mental strength comes into play. Sometimes as an athlete, it’s either you put too much pressure on yourself to do well or there is external pressure that would need you to perform”, she mentioned.

On top of the pressure she has to endure, the squash player was also met with a car accident, where she had to undergo surgery back in 2022. Her head, spine and neck were severely injured, and doctors were afraid that she would never walk again. After over half a year of extensive physiotherapy sessions and pushing herself as hard as possible, she was finally able to perform light activities in the court.

All hard work and persistence

Thankfully, her hard work and persistence finally paid off and she was able to return to her full potential! When asked for her current training regime, Sivasangari shared that she trains 6 days a week.

“I would train 2-3 sessions a day depending on the week and my off days are usually on Sundays”, she said, adding that her training consists of conditioning sessions and squash practices.

Sharing her love for squash, Sivasangari revealed that her determination and dedication stems from the passion she developed for squash. With the support and encouragement from her parents, the 25-year-old squash player was certain that this is the path that she wants to take.

“Every achievement I’ve obtained, I dedicate it to my parents. They’ve been with me through my lowest and highest”, she mentioned.

When asked if she would choose the same path if she was given a chance to head back in time, the talented squash player said that she would still choose the same path.
