With social media pushing superficiality in the common consciousness, many may have experienced being judged based on their outer appearance or material possessions . This is most commonly experienced in many upscaled boutiques, where customers have reportedly felt being judged or discriminated by sales staff based upon their appearances.

But that was not the case by a female tourist vacationing in Malaysia, who took to praising the sales service that she received when shopping around a number of high-end boutiques located in the popular Pavilion shopping centre.

China tourist applauds M’sia luxury sales assistants for lack of judgement, good service

As reported by China Press, the woman who is believed to be from Mainland China, has recently caught the attention of local social media users after recounting her time spent at one of the nation’s most recognisable shopping havens. In fact, she even went so far as to say that the politeness that she experienced from staff when browsing in the mall’s many luxury shops is indicative of how a ‘civilised country’ should be.

Describing the sales associates that she met as friendly and enthusiastic, the tourist especially commended them for their warmth and lack of judgement, in spite of the fact that she was casually dressed in an unassuming outfit.

“They’d ask me to smell their new fragrances, recommend things that they think are to my liking”, she said.

This is in poor comparison with the times that she has shopped in Shanghai, where the tourist claims she would be otherwise ignored or discriminated against by sales staff is she was seen in a boutique without carrying a luxury bag on her arm. In fact, she points out that she would have received no service if she was dressed in the same way here as she was back in China!

Her sentiments were further echoed by other netizens who commented that they have also enjoyed the service they have received from sales staff in Malaysian boutiques for their affability.

“I agree, the sales associates back in our country would often judge us by our appearance, Malaysia could have those associates as well, but I’ve never encountered any of them, they’re friendly and kind even when you’re just purchasing things from random stores.”

“This is true. If you wear slippers during the Summer while entering luxury outlets at Hong Kong or Shanghai, they wouldn’t even serve you.”
