There is nothing more certain in the tech world than the launch of a brand-new iPhone model come every September by Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple. Ever since its initial introduction back in 2009, the iPhone has since come to influence and shape our relationship with mobile technology, which is further spurred on by competitors that have made similar strides using Google’s Android operating system.

And this year is no different, with the company announcing that its next major Apple Event will be taking place come this September 7th, 2022 at 10.00am Pacific Time. In the case of us Malaysians, this would mean September 8th, 2022 at 1.00am, with time differences factored in.

Apple’s new iPhone 14 is expected to see a redesign

And while the previous few iPhone launches have been iteratives ones in terms of design, this year’s iPhone 14 is expected to introduce some landmark changes to one of the most ubiquitous smartphones ever released.

According to Apple enthusiast website MacRumours, the latest version of the iPhone will most likely get rid of the familiar ‘notch’ on its screen, which was previously used to house a number of key components including hardware for Apple‘s Face ID biometric system, the selfie camera, and the earpiece.

In its place, users will likely find a small hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, alongside a pill-sized cutout that will contain reworked internals for Face ID components. The change will bring Apple’s flagship range more in-line with its Android counterparts, which have been using holepunch cameras for quite some time now.

However, it is said that only the Pro line of phones will feature this new key design language, with the regular iPhone still expected to ship with the notch that was introduced all the way back in 2017 with the iPhone X.

iPhone ‘mini’ rumored to be dropped

The refreshed model range will also see the elimination of the diminutive 5.4-inch iPhone mini, with Apple reportedly doing so owing to the phone’s lackluster sales. In its place, a rumored 6.7-inch iPhone 14 ‘Max’ is expected to launch, allowing consumers the choice of an iPhone with a larger screen at a slightly lower price point compared to its ‘Pro’ lineup.

Consumers can also expect a slight price-jump, which may make these new iPhones the most expensive ones ever released in the device’s history.

As for those of us in Malaysia, you may be able to expect pre-orders for the new iPhone to open sometime by the end of September, to early October, judging by the device’s release history thus far.
