Penang is a state located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Known for its rich cultural heritage and diversity, visitors can definitely expect a vibrant mix of traditions, languages, and cuisines. Amongst other attractive locations to visit, Penang Hill definitely stands out as it’s a place filled with a rich nature ecosystem!
Penang Hill Funicular Train station officially reopened for visitors!
According to Bulletin Mutiara, back in March 2021, the station has undergone upgrading works and was initially set to only use 18 months to complete all necessary works. However, due to the pandemic restrictions, the construction works were delayed, causing it to only be completed by 2024.
After 3 years, greeting visitors with a new face, the upgraded station features both modern upgrades and century-old structures which blends seamlessly into an architectural marvel. Attending the officiating ceremony, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow shared exciting news, mentioning that the new and improved station can now accommodate up to 700 visitors at a time!
Renamed as Penang Hill Station for the station on top and Penang Hill Lower Station for the base station for the convenience of visitors. Other than that, the upgraded station also offers escalators and a passenger lift, allowing it to be more accessible to all walks of life.
Following the Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’, the recent upgrade perfectly aligns with the vision, standing as a beacon for both local and international tourists to enjoy.
So, the next time you visit Penang, feel free to explore the newly upgraded Penang Hill station and enjoy the breathtaking view it has to offer!
