Just over a month ago, Malaysians were enlightened with the case of a boutique owner located in Kelantan getting fined for wearing shorts at her own shop. On a similar note, a female salon owner has been slapped with a fine of RM100 for allowing one of her female staff to cut a male customer’s hair.

According to local newspaper, NST, it was reported that the salon owner had breached a regulation that was set by the Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) over a decade ago. Datuk Oie Poh Choon, the president of the Kelantan Chinese Association Federation revealed that the business license guidelines have stated that non-mulim female hairdressers are prohibited from performing hair cut services to any Muslims from the opposite sex.

During the incident, it was said that the male customer had followed his family members to the salon. The female worker then proceeded to perform a haircut on the male customer, which has led the salon owner to slapped with a RM100 fine. Under the accompaniment of Datuk Oie, the salon owner has made her way to Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) and paid her RM100 fine over four days ago.
“She acknowledged her mistake and said she forgotten about the regulation”, said Datuk Oie.
Following the incident, Datuk Oie emphasised that the regulations weren’t a newly implemented guideline. In order to avoid any unwanted mishaps or consequences, he has urged for MPKB to brief the salon owners of the regulations set as it’s apparent that many salon owners have forgotten about the guidelines written in their business license.
