Boasting a total of 24.4km of roadways connecting the Sri Petaling district with Ulu-Kelang, the newly launched Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) has been the talk of the town for many of those living in the Klang Valley.
And that comes as to no surprise, given the sheer engineering marvels that the structure boasts such as the two spiral loops at the Cheras-Kajang interchange that merge into the highway, as well as incredible views of the Kuala Lumpur skyline by dusk afforded by sections of raised vantage points. (but please don’t stop your car to take photos and endanger other motorists)
Malaysians find hilariously tiny road signage on SUKE Highway
While that may be all good and well, some netizens have recently made a particularly peculiar discovery while travelling along the SUKE Highway. Given how new it is, driving through it could feel like forging through new ground for those behind the wheel. In which case, it is probably a good idea to keep your eyes peeled for highway signage to keep you appraised of where you are and where you should drive towards, to avoid getting lost.
Only in the case of the SUKE Highway, you might need more than just your eyes to help read the signage, given how shockingly tiny it is!
As shared by a number of social media users who have already made the trip across Phase 1 of the newly opened highway, video footage appears to show a hilariously small piece of signage used to indicate where a fork in the road would lead. Here’s one by @jeppwaksalam:
Unfortunately, the sign is only legible up close after you have already driven down either side of the forked road!
A clearer video shared by Tiktok user @bob_yp shows that the road on the left side of the fork leads to Hulu Langat, while the road on the right side of the fork leads towards Ampang, Tasik Tambahan, and Jalan Taman Putera.
‘Ordered from Shopee,’ netizens left amused
As one can expect, netizens have been left amused by the signage, with many alluding to corruption being the reason why the signage turned out looking so small.
“They ordered it from Shopee. What arrived is different in size from what they had ordered.”
“They don’t have budget, bro. Hahaha.”
“How many billions did they allocate for the manufacture of the signboards?”
“Is that a highway signboard, or a signboard used to advertise a wedding reception?”
“Those who were working on the highway ran out of budget, bro. If they could, they’d just make a sign using a whiteboard and permanent markers.”
