A little over a month ago, both Yi Yi and Sheng Yi was scheduled to return home in May but according to Giant Panda Conservation Centre Director, Dr. Mat Naim Ramli, he shared that an agreed date has yet to be decided upon between both countries. Over the past decade, as diplomacy gifts to strengthen the bonds between recipient countries, China has been sending pandas over to different countries. However, it is worth noting that the sending of pandas typically involves agreements and contracts between China and the recipient country.

To commemorate its second birthday in Zoo Negara, the caretakers have prepared a special treat for Sheng Yi! As the weather in Malaysia has been scorching hot, the caretakers have decided on a ‘shaved ice cake’ that’s entirely made of fruits and ice. The ‘cake’ was decorated with bamboo shoots on the side along with some flowers while the ‘cake’ has fruits like grapes, dragon fruits, and apples.

To top the cake with a ‘cherry’ on top, they have gone an extra mile to place some toys on top of the cake so the two-year-old cub can play with it. After placing the cake in its conservation centre, they were seen taking pictures with the cake they’ve prepared, wishing for Sheng Yi to grow up healthy and happy.
