Throughout the pandemic, many of us can come to the simple agreement that food delivery riders have gradually become an integral part of modern day living. This has proven to be especially true during the lockdown period, with many of our abang and akak delivery risking possible infection to bring hot meals to our doorstep. But it doesn’t just stop there.
Kind food delivery riders escort old lady across a busy street
In fact, these familiar faces on Malaysian streets have also been known to go above and beyond to lend their fellow countrymen a hand when they need it most. And in this most recent instance, a team of two food delivery riders took time out from making deliveries to help make sure that an elderly woman managed to make it across a busy roadway safely.
In a video shared by TikTok user @nurilfarhanahibrahim, both deliverymen from rival companies could be seen slowing their motorbikes down after they encountered an elderly senior citizen who appeared to have trouble trying to make it across a busy intersection. She even appeared to rely upon an umbrella to help hobble along as she walked. Without any stop lights put into place, pedestrians may simply have to rely on timing and quick reflexes to sprint over to the other side safely.
Helped stopped traffic so she could walk safely
Knowing that the elderly woman may be left to wait around for a considerable amount of time before a gap in the traffic would appear, both riders decided that they would use their motorbikes to help block the path of oncoming vehicles and make room for the senior citizen to pass. By flaking her on both sides, the food delivery riders managed to escort her across the street, taking care to move slowly to keep pace with her.
Only once when the elderly woman make it safely across the busy street did the food delivery riders feel assured enough in her safety to leave her to the remainder of her journey.
The video, which has since gone viral across social media, has earned both men heaping amounts of praise from netizens.
“Only politicians seek to divide us, but in reality we can live together just fine despite being of different cultures. Good job to both men!”
“Both men did an excellent job. May their future endeavours be eased.”
“The riders did a great job. Even if they may be misunderstood and sometimes shamed, they continue to prove that the strength of harmony exists in all Malaysians.”
