Travelers to expect charges up to RM73 when flying to & from Malaysian airports

In a recent attempt to help the aviation industry in Malaysia to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, the government has decided to adjust the passenger service charges (PSC). With that said, travelers that flying in and out of Malaysian airports can expect to pay a little extra.

Emphasizing that the service charges pay for security and maintenance, the adjustments made by the government will commence on June 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026.

Local newswire agency Bernama has shared that Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) announced the price adjustments that will range from RM7 to RM73. And it’s worth noting that the fees charged is applicable to all travelers who are flying to and from Malaysian airports.

Breaking down the revised rates, travelers can expect the same RM11 fee charged when traveling domestically. However, travelers traveling from the Senai Airport can expect the airport’s own rates, which ranges from RM10 to RM50. As for international flights, regardless of if it’s within of beyond ASEAN, passengers can expect a RM73 charge for KLIA Terminal 1, as well as RM50 charge for KLIA Terminal, including other airports.

Other than that, a new fee has been introduced to passengers when taking connecting flights. For domestic connections, the fee charged would be RM7. As for international connections, passengers are expected to pay RM42 in KLIA Terminal 1 as well as RM29 at KLIA Terminal 2, including other airports.

As of now, tickets bought before June 1, 2024, will not observe the price changes.
