Growing up, some of us may have had maids helping out with the house. In Malaysia, this is a common practice especially among working parents or those with larger families.
“Such a big house but no maids?” M’sian man raises his kids to help out with house chores
However, this does not apply to one man’s household. Mohd Yazid Ismail took to his Facebook to share a post that has caught the attention of netizens.
“A teacher visited our house to collect some items,” he explained in his post. While doing so, she asked for a brief tour around house and what she saw surprised her.
“Such a big house without maids, is it okay?” the teacher had wondered aloud. In response, Mohd Yazid jokingly mentioned that he already had four ‘maids’ at the moment. “Next year, we will have a fifth one,” he wrote in his post.
Believes his children should learn how to be independent
Currently, his family is blessed with six children ranging from 2 to 15 years old. Mohd Yazid believes that they should learn how to be hardworking and independent from a young age.
“Once they reached the age of 7, we taught them how to iron their own clothes.” Apart from that, the kids also know how to clean up after their meals and fold their laundry. “The one in the picture is Fina,” he explains. Without even requesting her to, she had offered to help Mohd Yazid mow the lawn.
“This is the importance of educating them early, so that they will make it a habit,” he says. His post has gathered rounds of online applause as well as people coming to him for advice.
That’s a great example to live by! Hopefully more children will seek to emulate Mohd Yazid’s family values.
